i’m ringing in the new year with a new blog!  please update your bookmarks and Google readers (love my Google reader!).

new blog at:  www.newdayphotography.com/blog/

I don’t know what to say today. I have nothing important to announce. Nothing business related to post.  I’m just blogging to say that I love this little man. He’s my nephew and he is gorgeous and sweet and he is great to my daughter who adores him. I really am blessed to have him in my life because he is one of those kids you just can’t help but love.

My daughter thinks he is just the best and he is so great with her.  The other day I found a stack of paper…simple white paper which she took from my drawer…  it was wrapped in tissue paper (her latest hobby… that, and writing letters) and it had his name written on it.   It was her gift to him. I have no idea why she decided that paper would make a great gift for him but she did.  It’s still sitting in my office.  Right next to a wrapped book of stickers.  I don’t know exactly what his response would be if she gave it to him, but I do know it would be kind…because that’s who he is and that’s worth saying.

You’ve gotta love the whole tooth thing at this age!  It makes for a great smile…!

So, it’s been a crazy couple of days for me and I can’t believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner with Christmas right on its tail.  Wow.  Where does the time go?  I do have to admit that I am really looking forward to the Holidays this year.  With everything going so smoothly with the Christmas sessions, it looks like it’ll all be done very early and I’m totally digging that.

How I know that the Holidays are almost here?  Well, because this time of year I become even more addicted to the Food Network than I already am.  I am making a new dish this Thanksgiving and I’m on the hunt for something super great.  If I don’t get “OMG- this is soooo good!” as a reaction to my dish, I’ll be highly disappointed.  When it comes to cooking for others, anything less than that is not an option.  It has got to be great.  So I search through recipes and only consider those with 5 stars and at least 100 reviews.  Then, Christmas music has been playing in my car since before Halloween because my daughter has been practicing songs for two of her Christmas programs. I have to say, it really is kinda cute listening to her sing them over and over.  I know that probably sounds like a Mom in who is a little too in love with her child, but well, it’s her first school program.  You’ll have to cut me some slack.   I’m even more excited that the newest addition to the family will more than likely be here before Christmas because, selfishly, I can’t wait to see her.  I can’t wait to introduce her to my camera.

So, yes….  Christmas is almost here and I can’t wait.  I think I’ll even have my tree up BEFORE Thankgiving.  Is that odd?  Who knows.  For now, though, I’m looking forward to a long night finishing the last of the mini’s and watching the movie I just rented on itunes.  I hope it’s good.

PS If this doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will.

This post is for Joe (Joe Centeno, to be exact).  As the director of this commercial, I get to embarrass him a little by giving him credit in my blog and going on and on about what a great commercial it is.  (wink, wink) Yeah, he rocked it. (Hope you’re blushing, Joe.)

See you at the games!

So, I’m sitting here with my daughter making a list (and no, it’s not a Christmas list). It’s tomorrow’s to-do list. We got up to number 10 and she just added 11 and 12. On that list: proof and load a 3 galleries….create some custom cards and some funky mats for a few fabulous clients… place orders…. go the post office and mail a package… call some folks…. email others…. try to finish that sample album…. proof a chunk out of a wedding…. and a few other things if I can get to them. Whew!

I’m getting a head start tonight. So here’s an image from one of those galleries on my list. Sooo sweet.

My attempt at a shot that was apparently not as interesting as what her brother was doing behind us.

More to come!

When I invite parents to jump in on a  photograph, this is what I hope to achieve.  Real moments.

I love the fact that this Mom and Dad allowed themselves to let go in front of the camera despite the fact that the little one was crying nearby and that the boys were off doing who knows what.  I love couples and interactions and love.

both mini-session shots

I never blogged this wedding and well, I had my reasons. These were taken in the month of June for my cousin. One of three weddings I did while being 7 ( almost 8 ) months pregnant. This was the last wedding and to be honest, once it was done and archived, I was done. Simply spent. I did not touch my computer after that until the baby was born. I didn’t want to hear the word wedding or photograph for fear it would make me nauseous. The way I saw it, they were safe and when they were ready to see the world, they would.  Right and with love.  So, anyway, here they are… it was painful during, took a while after, but in the end when you love what you do, you can’t do it halfway. It’s all or nothing. Here’s my all. Love you, Cousin. ME

No, the bike wasn’t one of my props at the mini-sessions. Her father brought it. I think it added something super classic to the images. I love all things vintage.

She wouldn’t stand on the boxes until we called them a stage:)

Yes, it’s hard getting back to work after having a baby, but really….. how hard could it be when I’ve been photographing such beautiful children?!

I did get a great shot of her looking at me, but I’m drawn to this one.  She was happiest just walking around, getting warmed by the sun.
